Nanoparticle synthesis by laser
ablation
Laser
ablation is a versatile way of generating nanoparticles in the vapor phase.
The
picture below shows a rod of solid cesium iodide (CsI) being ablated by a
pulsed Nd:YAG laser at a wavelength of 1064 nm and a fluence of 2 J/cm2.
Current efforts in the
synthesis of nanoparticles by laser ablation involve:
Semiconductors
(Si).
Metals (Ag).
Insulators
(CsI).
