Summary: Phillip, a footloose 31-year old journalist on the road from the United States to Europe, suddenly finds himself with a new traveling companion: a precocious 9-year old named Alice. The two of them fly from New York to Amsterdam to wait for her mother. When she doesn't arrive, they travel by car to Germany in search of Alice's grandmother.
