Summary: A coup during the summer of 1980 in Bolivia sets off a military crackdown. Thousands of mine workers are arrested, labor and political leaders are killed, churches are attacked. A young Bolivian heart surgeon practicing in the U.S. returns to his native land to find his respected high school mentor one of the dead. He visits his classroom, remembering his vow to the dead man o return to serve his country as a doctor. As curfew falls, he is joined by his former girlfriend, a politically involved journalist.
